DEDE Copper IST Series Turkish Greek Coffee Pot Review

Today, we take a look at Dede Copper’s line of Turkish coffee pots. This review encompasses their entire lineup, which is admittedly a lot more sizable compared to other brands.

All that means is more options for you, be it the size, the design, or even the colors. Thankfully, no matter which one you get, it will feature high quality materials, a sturdy build, and an attractive design that blends the classic and the modern. 

DEDE Copper Pot – Quality & Durability 

DEDE copper’s ibriks are made of thick, hammered copper. Each pot is fashioned out of a single piece of copper, so there are no loose seams or welds that could degrade over time. 

The finish on the exterior is a cut above other pots we’ve reviewed. This is important because copper has a tendency to discolor or get stained over time. 

But this one resists staining and we did not notice any discoloration during the review period. 

As for the inner surface, it is lined with food-grade tin. This holds up really well to high heat and abrasive coffee particles. Just don’t go at it too hard with a scrubber or you run the risk of tarnishing it. 

Speaking of, we were a bit disappointed to find that this otherwise impeccable cezve lacks a dishwasher-safe rating. But then again, that’s pretty much the only drawback that we could find!

Capacity

One of this Greek coffee maker’s best features is the variety of sizes it is offered in. While lesser pots are happy with offering one or two different capacities, this one comes in five, (count ‘em five!) different capacities. 

The one we tested came in at a respectable 16.9 ounces, and that’s not even the biggest one in the lineup! If you need less capacity, there is a 6 ounce, a 9.6 ounce, and a 14 ounce version as well. 

Or if you need even more capacity, the gargantuan 28 ounce version of this pot should be right up your alley. 

And while the 28 ounce pot is ideal for entertaining guests, all but the smallest pot in the lineup can hold two or more cups of coffee. 

DEDE Copper Design

Much like the size, there are a couple different options for the style and finish of this copper Turkish coffee pot as well. Namely, there are two different options for the style of engraving on the exterior, and each comes in 3 appealing finishes.

Istanbul Style

This first style of engraving utilizes floral patterns. These patterns have longer, swooping lines that cover the exterior really well. There is a subtle etching behind the floral patterns that gives a sense of depth. 

Here, we loved the intricate detailing on the leaves which gives them a more realistic look. What’s even more impressive is the fact that all of this was hand-carved by master Turkish craftsmen.

Retro Style

The second style of engraving is a bit more straightforward. This one features simple, geometric patterns made of small dots and overlapping circles. 

These are arranged into unique triangular formations that recall the tapestries and banners you might find in a Turkish palace. Of course, if you have the mind of a 4-year old, it’ll just look like a bunch of grapes!

While we like both designs, the second leans towards the minimalist. So our personal pick will have to be the beautiful floral pattern of the Istanbul Style. 

It is also important to note that you might have to make some compromises when choosing your preferred pot, based on how much capacity you need. 

This is because the Istanbul Style (the one bearing ‘floral pattern’ engraving) is only offered in 9.6 ounce and 16.9 ounce versions. Conversely, if you want the 6 ounce, the 14 ounce, or the 28 ounce pots, they’ll have to be in the Retro Style (‘geometric dot pattern’ engraving). 

But whatever combination of size and style you end up going with, you get 3 different color options: gloss, matte, and the dark antique copper which is our personal favorite. 

Similarly, every pot benefits from the inclusion of a heat-resistant handle for easier brewing and serving. And finally, this pot has a small spout integrated into the mouth, which lets you avoid spills when pouring. 

Price

Obviously, the price will vary based on the size you get. However, having compared the prices of a couple thousand Turkish/Greek pots, we can offer an informed opinion. 

As such, we found these pots to be on the high end as far as the price is concerned. In fact, no matter the size, you can find a lot of comparable pots for a lot less money. 

But considering the quality of build and how much freedom you have to mix and match pot styles, we think the prices are justified. And for that price, you get one of the best Turkish coffee pots money can buy.

Does the DEDE Copper Pot Have Additional Features?

Each of these pots comes with a wooden spoon included in the box. This is great for stirring or mixing coffee without damaging the tin lining. 

Interestingly, the handles on these pots are detachable, thanks to a metal hitch ring and screw. There are three different lengths of replacement handles available. 

Again, this level of customization is unprecedented, and makes it a lot easier for you to get just the right type of pot for your needs. 

We also have to mention that this pot is compatible with all the popular types of stovetops, including gas, electric, and induction.

When it’s not being used for brewing or serving coffee, the pot can be used as a vessel for heating up milk or even mixing different spices for your next masala chai. 

Or if you opted for the largest, 28 ounce pot, you might find that it works well as a personal defense weapon against burglars!

These pots average 4.7 stars on amazon, based on 668 ratings over the five different available sizes. Buyers are generally very satisfied with their purchase and report great long term durability. Understandably, the lack of a dishwasher-safe rating is a common gripe, but other than that, it is overwhelmingly positive.

Editor’s Conclusion

We were pretty impressed with the Dede Copper line of Arabic coffee pots. The standout feature here is the immense customizability, wherein you can choose from various colors, sizes, styles, and even handle lengths! 

The quality of build is top-notch, and the design is quite attractive. 

These pots also pack a lot of utility, being compatible with most of the popular stovetop options.  And while they do cost a bit more than similarly-sized pots, it’s a small price to pay for having a bespoke Turkish coffee pot that you customized yourself.

Having tested it thoroughly, we give the DEDE Copper an 7.2/10. That puts it right up there with the best of the best. Really, the only thing working against this pot is the lack of the dishwasher-safe rating. 

Despite that, unique features like swappable handles and compatibility with different stove styles puts this pot over the top.
